BV solid and BVR building wires

BV / BVR

Choose solid copper BV or multi-strand copper BVR for your building wiring requirement. Both are single-core wires with PVC insulation and no separate outer sheath. Compare conductor construction alongside voltage, cross-section and termination requirements; the order data sheet confirms the selected configuration.

Applications and requirements

  • Building wiring enquiries, with installation and protective measures defined by the project design.
  • The documented BV 300/500 V group is for internal wiring; match the application before selecting the voltage group.
  • Comparison of solid BV and multi-strand BVR when specifying routing and termination requirements.

Technical information to check

BV solid and BVR building wires
BV scope on this pageSolid copper conductor, PVC insulation, single core and no separate outer sheath.
BV 300/500 V — documented solid sizes0.5, 0.75 and 1 mm²; identified as 60227 IEC 05 (BV) in the reference sheet.
BV 450/750 V — documented solid sizes1.5, 2.5, 4, 6 and 10 mm²; identified as 60227 IEC 01 (BV). Stranded rows are excluded from this subset.
BVR constructionMulti-strand copper, PVC insulation and a single core without an outer sheath; the reviewed group is 450/750 V.
BVR reference standardThe reviewed BVR specification cites JB/T 8734.2-2016. Its standard is recorded separately from BV.
BVR cross-sectionsDetailed documents cover 1.5–16 mm² and 2.5–70 mm² in different versions. Specify the required size to confirm the current matching configuration.

What to include in your enquiry

  • Choose solid BV or multi-strand BVR.
  • State voltage, cross-section, insulation colour and required length.
  • Describe installation, terminations and the project standard.
  • Confirm available sizes, packaging and the dated technical specification for the batch.

Frequently asked questions

How do solid BV and BVR differ?

The BV subset shown here has one solid copper conductor per core; BVR uses multiple copper strands. Both have PVC insulation with no separate outer sheath. Select against conductor construction, termination requirements and the project design, rather than cross-section alone.

Is every BV wire a solid-conductor wire?

No. The wider BV documents also include stranded rigid conductors. This page lists only the documented solid subset: 0.5/0.75/1 mm² at 300/500 V and 1.5/2.5/4/6/10 mm² at 450/750 V.

Can cross-section alone determine the current rating?

No. Installation method, ambient temperature, grouping and conductor temperature limits are also needed. Request data for the actual installation conditions; product-table values labelled kg/km are cable weights, not current ratings.
