Match the documents to the cable
Useful technical evidence identifies the model and configuration you intend to buy. Check the named organisation, specification range, standard, issue date and document status before using it for purchasing or acceptance.

Different documents answer different questions
Read datasheets, test reports and certificates according to their purpose and stated scope.
- Datasheets describe construction, dimensions and technical values for a product or defined specification group.
- Test reports identify the sample, method, conditions and results of the test performed.
- Product certificates need to be matched to the model, holder, manufacturing site and certified range.
- Management system certificates address the management system within their scope; they do not by themselves establish the performance of every cable.
- Declarations of conformity and other documents need to be read with the stated product, standards and supporting reports.
Check scope and current status
Documents from manufacturing partners may have been issued at different times. An archived copy or older scan needs a status and scope check before it is used for a new order.
A stated expiry date must be taken into account. Where no expiry date is shown, check the status with the issuer or an appropriate verification source. The year of issue alone does not establish whether a document remains valid.
- Do the holder, manufacturer and production site match?
- Are the model, voltage, cross-section, configuration and materials within scope?
- Do the standard and edition meet the project's requirements?
- Have the appendices, market restrictions and conditions of use been checked?
Specific checks for solar and network cables
PV1-F and H1Z2Z2-K require documents that match their separate designations. A certificate for one model or cross-section range does not automatically cover another model or every size.
A report for a Cat6 sample does not establish Cat5e or Cat6A performance. Even within one Cat category, compare the conductor, shielding, sheath, tested sample configuration and test standard with the cable being quoted.
When specification versions differ
A general range table may cover more sizes than a detailed datasheet set. Confirm the applicable version and actual configuration rather than combining values from different documents into one product.
Current ratings, temperature, resistance and voltage need their units, conditions and field definitions. The technical documents used for an order should be clearly agreed by both sides.

Frequently asked questions
Does an ISO certificate establish compliance for every cable?
No. Management system certification and product assessment documents have different scopes. Check the relevant product standard, tested sample or model in the matching technical documents.
Can an older test report be used for a new order?
The sample configuration, manufacturer, standard and new order requirements need to be checked. An older report provides evidence of the test recorded in it; its acceptance for a new order needs separate confirmation.
